Radiator

Water pump

Circulates coolant through the engine and radiator. A failing pump often shows up first as overheating in traffic, sometimes with a whining noise or a visible leak at the pump's weep hole.

Thermostat

Regulates when coolant flows to the radiator. Stuck closed and the engine overheats; stuck open and it runs too cold and never reaches proper operating temperature — both are common, inexpensive fixes when caught.

Hoses & head gasket

Hoses harden and crack with age and heat cycling — we check for soft spots and swelling, not just active leaks. If overheating and other symptoms point toward the head gasket, we confirm with a proper test before quoting the bigger job.

Why does my car overheat in traffic but not on the highway?

How often should coolant be flushed?
Most manufacturers call for every 30,000 to 60,000 miles or every few years, depending on coolant type. Old coolant loses its corrosion protection, letting rust and scale build up inside the radiator and water pump — we'll check your coolant's actual condition rather than go strictly by mileage.
Can I just add water instead of coolant?
In an emergency, to get off the road, it's better than nothing — but it dilutes the corrosion inhibitors and lowers the boiling point of the mixture. Get the actual coolant mix restored and the leak that emptied it checked as soon as you can. Call 215-322-4510.
Is it safe to keep driving if the temperature gauge is climbing?
